“Riding The River of Fire”
A Special Advent Session with Sr. Helen Prejean
In 1995 a movie came out that brought a heightened discussion of the death penalty into national focus. The movie was called Dead Man Walking and starred Sean Penn and Susan Sarandon who won an Academy Award for her portrayal of Sister Helen Prejean. The movie was based on the book of the same name.
On Saturday, December 4th, you can join Sr. Helen Prejean, celebrated author of the book Dead Man Walking as she reflects on her new spiritual memoir “River of Fire” and our own spiritual journeys. The world’s leading voice against the death penalty, she will share her journey in the footsteps of the nonviolent Jesus and how she became an advocate of justice. Together we will begin the holy season of Advent learning from her journey and wisdom that we too might follow more faithfully in the footsteps of the nonviolent Jesus. What a great way to start Advent!
During our time, Sr. Helen will share her spiritual journey, from her new book, River of Fire, and invite us to reflect on our own spiritual journeys, reenergize our discipleship to the nonviolent Jesus and redouble our work as his disciples and apostles to end poverty, racism, executions, war and environmental destruction. A great way to start Advent together!
Date and Time: Saturday, December 4th, 11 a.m. Pacific/ 2 p.m. Eastern.
The session will last one and a half hours; cost: $30.
